Postdoctoral research scientist
Fraunhofer Institute IAIS
Bahavathy Kathirgamanathan is a postdoctoral research scientist at Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS) and a scientific coordinator for Human Centered AI systems at the Lamarr institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. She completed her PhD in 2023 in Computer Science at University College Dublin (Ireland). Her research focus for her PhD dissertation was in multivariate time series classification of wearable sensor data for applications in sports analytics. Since completing her PhD, Bahavathy has shifted her focus towards the development of human-centric models. She is particularly interested in developing techniques that involve humans at every stage of the modeling process, from data representation to model development, and providing explanations back to the user. Her research interests include using visual analytics as a tool to aid this process, with a particular emphasis on applications involving temporal and/or spatio-temporal data.
