Senior Researcher

INRIA

Jean-Baptiste Mouret is a senior researcher at Inria, the French research institute dedicated to computer science and mathematics, in Nancy, France. Previously, he was an assistant professor at ISIR (Institute for Intelligent Systems and Robotics), which is now part of Sorbonne Université. He obtained a M.S. in artificial intelligence from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, France, in 2005, and his Ph.D. in computer science from the same university in 2008. Mouret’s research revolves around developing machine learning algorithms, often inspired by evolutionary computation, to enhance the adaptive capabilities of robots; his recent contributions are focused on humanoid robots and advanced teleoperation. His work gained significant recognition, including being featured on the cover of Nature (Cully et al., 2015), being awarded an ERC grant (2015-2020), and receiving the « 2017 ISAL Award for Distinguished Young Investigator in the field of Artificial Life, the French « La Recherche » award (2016), and several best papers awards in major evolutionary computation conferences.
