Pedro Larrañaga is a Full Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Director of the ELLIS Unit Madrid. He is the co-author of more than 200 scientific articles in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports and has co-supervised 36 doctoral theses. He has taken part in over 150 research projects, both public and private. He has served as program manager for Spain’s National Plan in Information Technologies and as a member of the Spanish National Commission for Research Activity. He was part of the expert group that drafted Spain’s first National Artificial Intelligence Plan in 2019. He is an elected member of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence, Academia Europaea, the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association, and the Basque Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. He is also an ELLIS Fellow and an IEEE Fellow. He has received the National Aritmel Award in Computer Science and the Award of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence. His research interests focus on Bayesian networks, feature selection, and estimation of distribution algorithms, with applications in computational neuroscience and industry.
