Distributed massive MIMO (D-MIMO) has been identified as a prominent technology for 6G with desired benefits in terms of capacity, reliability, and coverage, but the technology comes with deployment issues. In this project we will explore an interesting alternative where augmenting repeaters act as active scatters. This approach enables lean operation and organic deployment with performance close to that of D-MIMO but with a centralized massive MIMO base station. We will develop scalable solutions to augment the channel in the 3-15 GHz range and pave the way for sustainable and efficient 6G and beyond 6G networks with a minimum footprint.
