A new computer science club at Linköping University will give female upper secondary school students the opportunity to explore mathematics, programming, AI, and technology. The initiative is supported by the ELLIIT Gender and Diversity Group.
The club is aimed at young women who are curious about mathematics, computer science, and technology. Meeting once a week in a small group, the participants will work together with a female student mentor to explore problem-solving, programming, algorithms, and computer science concepts.
Activities will focus on discovery and experimentation, with examples ranging from classic problem-solving strategies to exploring how computers can recognize and solve problems such as Sudoku. No prior knowledge beyond upper secondary school studies is required.
The club will also offer participants an opportunity to meet others with similar interests, become familiar with Linköping University as a study environment, and gain insight into studying mathematics, computer science, and technology at the university.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA), the Department of Mathematics (MAI), and the Department of Electrical Engineering (ISY) at Linköping University. It is funded by the three departments and the ELLIIT Gender and Diversity Group.
