This project will develop an energy-scalable dual-band Frequency-Modulated Continuous-Wave (FMCW) frequency-generation architecture for future radar sensing, covering FR3/cm-wave operation for low-power or longer-range sensing and sub-THz/D-band operation for high-resolution sensing. The core idea is to design a chirp-linearized cm-wave fractional-N PLL that can operate directly at lower frequency, while a calibrated multiplier/mixer extension path enables D-band chirps only when centimeter-level resolution is needed. The project targets chirp linearity, phase noise (PN), frequency translation, spur suppression, and lightweight calibration in 22 nm FD-SOI CMOS. By enabling software-reconfigurable trade-offs among energy consumption, sensing range, and resolution, the work aims to support compact radar hardware for future 6G infrastructure and devices, with applications in automotive, industrial, consumer, security, and defense domains.
