Industrial cooperation

ELLIIT’s main mission is to foster fundamental research. To accomplish this, one of our adopted goals is to have an impact on industry by educating the next generation of engineers and commercializing research results.

Our focus is on fundamental research, which in turn can support more applied projects and cooperation with industry. Exploitation activities primarily take place within bilateral agreements between the respective research groups and companies.

On this page, you will find details on industry cooperation and exploitation activities undertaken specifically within ELLIIT-funded projects and by the ELLIIT Recruited Faculty.

ELLIIT Sucess stories

Innovation and new businesses

Since the very beginning, ELLIIT researchers have worked in close collaboration and partnership with strong Swedish industry representatives in sectors such as automotive, telecommunications and pharmaceuticals.

In Sweden, the so called “Teacher’s Exemption” states that university employees and inventors generally own their own IP-rights. ELLIIT researchers have benefitted from this and are keen publishers of new patents. In some cases, the inventors have chosen to create new exiting business. Great examples of common projects and fruitful exchanges of ideas can be found in the ELLIIT Success stories.

Industrial Advisory Board

In addition to common research activities, the ELLIIT Industrial Advisory Board is a privileged interface for strategic discussions and advice.

The Industrial Advisory Board consists of representatives from six industry partners with high relevance for the ELLIIT environment. Ericsson, SAAB, ABB, Axis Communications, Scania and Schnider Electric. You can find the boardmembers under Organization.

Industry Forum

To further develop ELLIIT’s cooperation with industry, the Industry Forum has been formed as an informal association. It is open to everyone in the Swedish business community interested in ELLIIT’s activities. Initially, the forum focuses on companies in geographic proximity to Linköping/Norrköping, Lund, Karlskrona, and Halmstad. The forum complements the more formal role of ELLIIT Industrial Advisory Board.

The first planned activity with the forum was a breakfast meeting on January 25, 2024, at the Visionen Arena (Campus Valla, Linköping University), where four new ELLIIT infrastructure initiatives based at LiU were demonstrated.

Collaborations

That ELLIIT places a strong focus on collaborating with industry becomes evident when looking at the many research projects conducted together with prominent industrial partners. Many of these partners are leading companies, both nationally and internationally, within the fields where ELLIIT conducts fundamental research.

By supplying the Swedish industry with competence and generate research results that can be exploited by industry, ELLIIT is reaching its overarching goals.
